About VetFairly

As a pet owner, I've had my share of harried trips to the vet. Sometimes I've walked out feeling relieved and grateful. Other times, I've walked away feeling disappointed, and even burned. I wanted so badly to find a place for pet owners to compare notes on vets. It didn't exist, and so I'm building it here.

Why I made VetFairly

VetFairly founder

I built VetFairly after one too many vet visits that left me feeling worse walking out than I did walking in.

As a northern Virginia pet owner for many years, I've gone through a number of vets: Generally, I've picked based on proximity, checked out the Google star count and a handful of reviews that told me precious little. More than once, I've regretted my choice: unexpected charges, procedures and tests that seemed unnecessary, the feeling of being managed and maximized rather than actually helped.

What I kept looking for and never finding was a place where pet owners described how they felt on the way out. Not just a number. The important facts: how the vet communicated, whether costs were a surprise, whether they'd go back. The kind of thing you'd ask a neighbor who'd been there before you.

So I built it. It covers DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. I think local context matters, so I want to start with one region and do it well.

VetFairly is independent and not sponsored by any vet, and I intend to keep it that way.

Here's what you can do with VetFairly

Three core functions.

1. Search

Search by clinic name, city, ZIP code, or specialty.

2. Read reviews

We aspire to ensure that each review is written by a real pet owner who's actually been there. Read about wait times, bedside manner, how they handle anxious animals, how they explain things, and what the bill looked like. The things star ratings don't tell you.

3. Pay it forward

After your visit, leave a review. Positive or critical, both are useful. Your experience, however good or bad, is exactly what someone else wants to know.

How I keep it honest

Reviews are only useful if you can trust them. Here's what we do to keep them trustworthy.

  • No paid listings or boosted ratings. We don't accept payment for listings or reviews. Ratings are entirely user-generated.
  • Email verification. Reviewers can confirm their email address. Confirmed reviews show an Email Verified badge. It means a real inbox was used. Of course, we can't verify the content itself.
  • Reporting and moderation. Any review can be flagged. We remove content that violates the moderation policy: spam, harassment, and off-topic posts.
  • Practice corrections. Practice owners can flag incorrect information via "Suggest an Edit" on any listing. We review every submission before applying changes.
  • One thing we don't verify. We don't confirm veterinary licenses or credentials—that's above our paygrade.
